The best cosmetology schools got it covered
By Laurie McLachlan Brown
A top cosmetology school or design college will offer every course you need to become a fully-trained and professional cosmetologist, esthetician, nail technician, make-up artist, or barber.
What should you look for in an academy’s curriculum? Courses at the best cosmetology schools that go beyond the basics of hair styling, manicures, pedicures, nail artistry, and skin care consulting, says a local salon manager. Look for advanced programs that demonstrate trendsetting capabilities, outstanding job placement and apprenticeship programs, and can provide students with the skills sought by beauty industry professionals.
With so many career choices in the fashion world, it’s important to choose the right design school. A beauty school directory is a good place to start researching some of the degree options available, such as hair stylist, facial and skincare specialist, nail artist/technician, image consultant, salon trainer/owner, hair and make-up consultant, beauty school educator/instructor, research and product development professional, barber, and more. Each degree carries different requirements, including the number of hours, which range from 600 to 2,700 or more, depending on the level of mastery. The institute may even offer scholarships, ranging from $300 annually to more than $2,000 depending on the student’s abilities and past academic record.
Hundreds of other scholarships, grants for beauty school, and student loans are also available through federal or state governments, or through private entities, such as sponsoring organizations and private individuals.
